Monterey County homeless census set for Jan. 28

The funding is critical for the network of agencies devoted to helping the homeless through housing, counseling, job searching and other services. Volunteers are needed to sign up for the Jan. 28 campaign that will fan out to at least 96 census tracts where homeless camps or venues have been identified. Many of those are situated in Salinas and at the former Fort Ord, said Katrina McKenzie, administrative coordinator at the Coalition of Homeless Service Providers of Monterey-San Benito Counties.
